ArlingtonParent.com believes strongly in families giving back to their community by volunteering their time and making donations. Families can make a difference in their community without it necessarily being a big time commitment or expense.
Set an example for your children by demonstrating different ways to give, through donating toys and clothes or by helping serve meals during the holidays. You will be teaching your children empathy and compassion. Below are ways parents and kids can give back to our community.

•Tutoring days are flexible schedule! The tutor and the student will decide the day of the week that best works for both parties. Once a day is selected, you and your learner will continue to meet on that day (unless it's agreed between you and your student that the day will change from week to week).
•Tutoring times are flexible schedule! The tutor and the student will decide what times best works. We ask tutors to work with their student for a minimum of 2 hours per week.
•Tutoring location may be scheduled at any public location (library, church, recreation center, restaurant, etc.) that is agreed between you and your student. Tutoring in private locations or carpooling is not allowed.
Arlington Reads provides free one-on-one or small group ESL, basic literacy (0-4th grade) or pre-GED (5th - 8th grade) tutoring for adult learners. The program serves non-readers, poor readers, and those who have come from other countries and are struggling to read, write and comprehend English.
KITE FESTIVAL - 3/13/10
Arlington Parks and Recreation Department and River Legacy Foundation partner in this fun event that will feature kite contests, workshops, and stunt demonstrations. Volunteers, 15 years and older, are needed for concessions, to distribute fliers, and to help facilitate activities.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION/WONDERS ON THE WING - 4/17/10
River Legacy is combining its popular Migratory Bird Festival with the 40th anniversary celebration of Earth Day to further promote conservation awareness. Volunteers are needed to facilitate activities, serve refreshments, and for setup and breakdown.

CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA - 5/1/10
Amateur boat builders put their skills to the test as they try to navigate their cardboard creations along the Lazy River and Wave Pool. Volunteers, 15 years and older, are needed for setup, breakdown, concessions, and event-day activities.

SUMMER CLASS ASSISTANTS - 7/12/10 - 7/30/10
Assist teachers in material preparation, classroom setup and breakdown and in instruction and activities. Summer Classes are held weekly in June and July and volunteers are needed one week at a time either morning or afternoon.

CADDY SHACK SCRAMBLE - 9/14/10
Annual golf tournament that raises funds to support the environmental education and conservation programs of River Legacy Foundation. Volunteers are needed for setup, breakdown and hospitality.

TRINITY TRASH BASH - 9/25/10
Join River Legacy Foundation, Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, and the Trinity River Environmental Education Society in a regional cleanup of the Trinity River's banks of River Legacy Parks.

This annual fall festival, which features professional storytelling, crafts, activities, games and festival fare, is designed for families with children ages 2 to 10 and highlights the educational programs offered by the Living Science Center. Volunteers are needed for setup and breakdown; to prepare and sell concessions; and to help facilitate games, crafts and activities.

STEWARDSHIP DAY - 11/13/10
Volunteers will work together in removing invasive plant species to aid biodiversity and protect wildlife. Workday will include a brief presentation on the subject.
