(NEW!) Universe gives an historical look at how we have envisioned the universe though the ages. We visit some of the ancient sites where our ancestors erected great structures with special astronomical significance. Finally we look at the Universe through the eyes of today's science and space explorers to build up a spectacular overview of the heavens.
Wonders of the Universe peers deep into space through the eyes of the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope and travels back billions of years in time to witness the birth of the universe. On this breathtaking excursion you'll witness the formation of galaxies and explore some of the most wondrous nebulae and astronomical structures yet discovered. As your travels continue, you'll fly deep into our own Milky Way galaxy and return home to Earth on a spectacular tour through the solar system.
Texas Night Sky is an informal, narrated introduction to the wonders of the sky featuring a view as it may appear tonight in your own backyard. Learn which planets, stars, and constellations are currently visible, the unique stories behind their names, and tips on how to locate them in the night sky. As night-time views change as the calendar changes, so do our shows!
Secrets of the Sun allows audiences to experience an intimate look at the role the sun plays in the life of our Solar System. From the nuclear forces churning at the heart of the sun to the mass ejections of solar material into the surrounding space, we will experience the power of the sun and its impact on the planets and ultimately life on Earth. We will trace the life cycle of the sun itself, going back to its beginnings and moving forward in time to its eventual death.
Cosmic Safari The search for life in the universe begins as we travel to yet undiscovered planets in the far reaches of space. In differing environmental conditions, you'll discover what living creatures might look like on worlds very different from our own. From the giant insect-like life forms on low-gravity planets, to the highly muscular star-shaped creatures on high-gravity worlds, Cosmic Safari transforms scientific theory into exotic worlds filled with fantastic creatures never before imagined.
WaterMuseum of Nature & ScienceInternationally-touring exhibit at MNS
Date: Every day (May 29-Aug 22) from 10:00am to 5:00pm
Admission Fees: included in museum general admission
Water is essential to life as we know it. And as it cycles from air to land to sea and back again, water shapes our planet-and nearly every aspect of our lives. When most of us want clean, clear water, we only have to go as far as the nearest faucet. We don't often consider the importance of preserving this most precious resource. The internationally-touring "Water" exhibit explores all sources of H2O, from expansive oceans to the tiniest raindrop, and how plants, animals, and people are constantly adapting to survive in conditions where fresh water is either scarce, extremely hot or even frozen. Satellite images, 3D video, live animals and walk-through dioramas give visitors a firsthand experience of the power and importance of water. Visitors will learn about frogs that freeze solid in the winter then thaw out and hop away in warmer months, worms that have evolved to survive in nearly-boiling water, emperor penguins that know how to stay warm in 40-below temps and how camels survive in the desert. Visitors will also see the many ways humans have learned to purify and conserve water and harness its power.
