Fun Q & A with our Spotlight Dad:

Personal:

What phrase or motto do you live by?

"As for me and my house we will serve the Lord."

Inspiration:

"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

If you could teach your kids one thing and have it impact them, what would it be?

Live within your means, serve others, and work in the field God designed you for.

How do you measure success?

Never retiring, serving all the days of my life with the gifts the Lord has given me.

Greatest Accomplishment:

I completed my career with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2007 after 21 years of service. I followed this career by doing something completely different, something I felt called by our Lord to do. I entered the field of nursing.

Proudest Moment:

Getting married to Nancy almost 18 years ago.

Biggest Challenge:

Marine Corps Boot Camp; Officer Candidate School for the Marine Corps; or Nursing School ... this one is a toss up.

Wildest Dream:

We would live on a sailboat. We would travel overseas for medical mission trips after sailing to our destination. While in the U.S. we would travel to different ports and I would work as a nurse in a local hospital.

Sport/Exercise Program:

Lifetime Fitness 2-3 times a week.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

We have been completely debt free, including the home, since 2001.

Where did you grow up:

East Millinocket, Maine

How many siblings:

Two younger brothers

First Job:

Sweeping streets and sidewalks in my small town's spring clean up.

Childhood Ambition:

Let's see ... astronaut, water skiing champion, NBA All-star, Marine, etc., etc. I think this changed every other week.

Favorites:

Favorite Local Restaurant:

Taco Cabana

Favorite Coffee Spot:

Borders Bookstore in Arlington Highlands

Favorite Soundtrack/song:

Handel's "Messiah"

Favorite Movie:

"It's a Wonderful Life" and "Band of Brothers"

Favorite TV Show:

We don't watch much TV, however, a few years ago, I loved the first season of "24".

Retreat:

A lake in Northern Maine where I grew up. A nice hot day (in the 80s) is perfect for all sorts of fun on the water.

Last Book You Read:

Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

Indulgence:

A white chocolate mocha at Borders with a side of something chocolate.

Tell us about a product or item that you can't live without as a parent

Rope

Your Perfect Day:

Up before anyone in my house on a pleasant spring day. Outside of the house, reading the Bible followed by the newspaper while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Other:

What inspires you to go to work every day?

I enjoy serving others.
