Explore the Nature Center's sunny prairies, shady forests, and refreshing wetlands to discover the unique plants and animals that find homes there. Using nets, magnifying lenses, and compasses, come navigate through each habitat to learn how they are alike, how they differ and how our local plants and animals are adapted to live there.
Adventures in Theater Camp is a smorgasbord of performing instruction and opportunities to enrich and entertain. Following a rotating schedule, students will take classes in dance, acting, music, prop and costume making, stage combat and much more. This two-week camp culminates in a final performance created by participating students.
Explore the exciting world of amusement park rides and games. Using hands-on activities, students will familiarize themselves with science and engineering concepts like velocity, gravity, centripetal force, potential & kinetic energy and many others. Students will even build their own mini-roller coaster! The class will conclude with a visit to Six Flags Over Texas for a day of observations, calculations and riding! Limit 14 per class.

The highlight of the summer is helping take care of the Nature Centers' educational animals. For all students that enroll in at least 4 previous day camps, you will have the opportunity to be a Keeper for a Day. You will learn what is needed to take care of the snakes, alligators, and even the owls.
From Alligator to Zebra, learn about animals with unique heads, shoulders, knees and toes... and everything in between.

Arlington Tennis Center junior tennis camps are designed for all levels of players. QuickStart (campers age 7-10) and Beginner (campers age 11-17) camps introduce the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and games format. High Performance (campers age 7-16) camps are designed for advanced, high school and qualified players.
The tennis camps are taught and supervised by USPTA certified professionals to ensure the highest quality instruction. Facility cards are NOT required for ATC programs. Make-ups due to rain are scheduled for Fridays at the same camp time.

This art class will introduce children to a variety of art mediums and subjects as well as different types of arts projects that will help with children express themselves and praise God. Children will be able to take home the projects at the end of the week to display in their home. Space is limited, so sign up early!
Have you ever wondered how American Indians and early settlers lived before our modern times? Come go back in time and learn about useful plants, animals, and the every day lives of the mysterious folks that came before us.
Children will be taught how to respond to different types of bullying and different types of bullies, to get the bullying to STOP. This is not the same re-hashed "ignore it / laugh it off / stay with friends" advice of times past. The bullying problem is much worse and more pervasive today, and requires new and powerful ways to halt the bullies in their tracks.
Kids will learn to read recipes & labels, using cooking tools, the microwave and oven, writing out shopping lists, and practicing kitchen safety. After making their recipes, kids will have an opportunity to try their food. Space is limited, so sign up early!

SummerStars is a two-week comprehensive residential and commuter program for gifted and talented teens. Taught by professional actors, directors, choreographers, and musicians, the program encompasses many aspects of theatrical production focusing on acting, singing, and dancing. This program concludes with a full musical production of Seussical, the Musical, staged and performed entirely by participants for family, friends, and the public on the final Saturday. Mornings of the program find the students rotating among classes in acting styles, techniques, music, and movement. Afternoons are devoted to rehearsals, set building, costuming, and choreography. Amid all the daily activity, the students will find time to attend a professional production at one of the prestigious venues in the Fort-Worth /Dallas area. The Session opens and closes with a party. If you are looking for an intense theatre environment, consider CATS this summer!
SummerStars Bound is a three-week comprehensive Musical Theatre program for children experienced in acting. Taught by professional directors, the program encompasses many aspects of theatrical production focusing on audition techniques, acting, singing, and dancing. This program concludes with performances of Aladdin, Jr, a musical production staged and performed entirely by participants for family, friends, and the public. Rehearsals are M-F 9:30-4:30pm and Shows run July 6-8th- Tuesday & Wednesday 10am, 1pm and Thursday 10am, 1pm, and 7pm.

Kids attending the Cookalicious Camp will learn about cooking by watching, feeling, smelling, tasting and hands on experiences. They will learn easy kid and no bake recipes that they can sample before going home. Recipes will be sent home with the kids so they can teach their parents at home. Interested in what lives and finds food in the soil beneath your feet? Some animals live their entire lives underground, while some spend half their time there. Come learn about the benefits of these extraordinary dirt dwellers!
Discovery Camp -
Kindergartners through 6th graders explore new topics each week. They'll go back in time to when dinosaurs roamed Earth and get immersed in ancient Roman cultures. They'll take journeys of the mind to underground universes, caves and watery wonderlands. Campers can build LEGO robots, use chemistry to make a stained-glass glue and color-changing potions and figure out what causes geysers, volcanoes, lightning and tornadoes, and much more. All topics are explored in fun, hands-on ways. Making full use of the museum buildings and the surrounding outdoor park area, campers make one-of-a-kind crafts and conduct experiments and activities every day tailored to their own age group.

Discovery Camp, Jr. -
Much like the full-day Discovery Camp, three- to four-year-olds can enjoy plenty of summertime fun at Discovery Camp, Jr. The half-day, drop-off camp is designed specifically for younger children and includes dynamic, age-appropriate activities perfectly suited to help them develop and learn. Discovery Camp, Jr. offers adventures that encourage independence and imagination. From the moment you drop your child off each morning until things wrap up for the day, you can count on them having plenty of exploration, interactive play, and age-appropriate instruction about the natural wonders that make our world so captivating. (Attendees must be three by June 1, 2010 and potty trained.)

Whether across our prairies or marshes, every summer we are invaded by these flying wonders. We are not talking about the jet flybys from the Joint Reserve Base; we are talking about our dragonflies. These insects make moves like Olympic gymnasts as they soar gracefully through the skies in search of food. Learn all the shortcuts to identifying dragonflies and become a dragonfly expert in your area.
The only place smellier than a kid's bedroom is an animal's. Spend a week learning about some of the most odorous animals and their homes.

Eggs are everywhere – hidden under the ground, floating atop the water, nestled among the branches of trees, concealed inside our homes. Through careful observations and daily hands-on investigations of eggs and egg-laying animals students will learn how extremely exciting exploring eggs can be! Limit 14 per class.
First through sixth grade students attend a summer session for five consecutive days either in the morning or afternoon. Morning classes meet from 9 am - 12 pm and afternoon classes meet from 1 pm - 4 pm. The Nocturnal Wonders class will meet 6 pm - 9 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; Thursday students will meet at 6 pm for an overnight class that concludes at 8 am Friday morning. Seventh through eighth grade students will attend a 3-day session from 9 am to 2 pm. All participants should come dressed for both indoor and outdoor explorations.
Even if you don't eat insects, you probably eat something that does. Learn how every animal in a food web plays a role in keeping every other animal well-fed.

This overnight camp will be a new adventure for many, who have never gone to an away-from-home camp. Or even if you have experienced a resident camp, get ready for one with that Special Camp Thurman touch! Campfires, basketball, slap-dodgeball, field games, and night-time activities. Songs and skits (with you as the performer), board and card games in the meeting hall, time to just enjoy new and old friends. Guest speakers for our exciting worship times and quiet individual devotion times will open your heart and mind to the presence of God.
This camp will be limited to 40 campers, and while the program is chock full of energetic activities, you'll also have plenty of time to get "connected" with both your friends and the staff.

We are quite dependent on our wildflowers. Their pollen provides food for insects, their seeds provide food for wildlife and their variety provides us with lots of beauty. Stroll across the Nature Center learning about the wildflowers that create the beautiful blanket of colors we get to enjoy. You will be wild about wildflowers after this adventure.
The goal of a girls-only camp is to increase the interest of high ability young women in a career in engineering by combating stereotypes, creating connections, reducing the issue of competition for resources with boys, and demonstrating the real-world social impact of engineering. This one-week day camp will introduce middle school young women to the field of engineering by showing how engineering is connected to personal issues, social concerns, and community interests.
By conveying engineering concepts in a more personal, social and community-oriented context and introducing them to middle school girls, we will show how engineers connect, communicate, and improve the world. Campers will experience faculty presentations and lectures, lab tours, field trips, hands-on activities.
Need-based partial and full camp scholarships are available.

These camps are designed to get students Hooked on Golf in a fun environment! The camps run four days for 1 1/2 hours each day. Students learn the basics in pitching, putting, chipping and full swing, while having a great time and meeting new friends. The final day of camp features a skills competition with various prizes.

Little minds love to learn, especially with and from their loved ones! That's why Little Explorers offers parents and their toddlers the opportunity to discover nature and science together. Through theme-based, hands-on, interactive activities, crafts and experiments, Little Explorers partners with parents to motivate and challenge their children at their developmental levels while developing their natural sense of curiosity and desire to explore.
Six months to two years:
"Scribbles and Dribbles" is inspired by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, which lets parents and their little one explore different animal shapes through a range of media.
Three- to four-year-olds:
"Science Buddies" will go on an adventure deep into the Amazon rain forest and skim along the coastlines across the globe while discovering plants and animals that inhabit our world. Science Buddies will take home one or more projects from daily science explorations, including a cumulative diorama project to work on each week in class that can be taken home on the last day of the session.
Eight-week sessions meet one day per week starting either June 14, 15, 16, 17 or 18. Six-month to two-year-olds and their companion meet either 9-9:45 am or 11-11:45 am. Three- to four-year-olds and companion meet either 9-10 am or 11 am-noon.

The Microbiology Institute will challenge the high school student's mind to think, research and conduct experiments. This institute is laboratory-based and will involve field work, which will require the students to actually collect samples from different sites on UT Arlington's campus. The students will have one intense week to complete the 5 I's of microbiology.

CAMP THURMAN has been providing the best day camp in the Arlington/Pantego area since 1969 and the most effective teambuilding adventures for eight years! Our mission is to provide for all ages safe, fun, wholesome outdoor programs, which demonstrate God's love, while helping individuals discover who they are in Christ.
Right in the heart of the city, we have 14 acres of trees, creeks, gullys and more! Our "fun in the woods" Day Camp is for children ages 4 through those finishing sixth grade. The kids are placed in groups of 10 to 12 children (all boys or all girls), with a Christian counselor and an assistant.
Our Evening Camps for 7th and 8th graders give our junior highers a chance to build leadership skills and discover what fun nighttime at CT can be. We've added Afternoon Camps for 6th graders to create a special atmosphere for our oldest Day Campers, and now we are offering an Overnight Camp with that unique Camp Thurman touch for our 7th and 8th graders.
What happens when the Greek Gods come after you? Join Percy Jackson in an adventure of epic proportions as he tries to solve the mystery of the Lightening Thief. Camp Thurman's Day Camp program has been changing and growing "actively" in recent years! Each year brings new action to the day's schedule, and six years ago our "Screamer" Zip Line was extended to four lines, stretching from one side of the camp to the other. Designed for the older campers, this confidence builder remains a favorite! The summer program is the RoPro College Challenge Camp. This three day camp is designed for high school juniors, seniors and new graduates who would like to play with robots and learn about college at the same time. The College Challenge Camp will not only provide students with a fun robot challenge to work on and compete in at the end of camp but will also cover topics like college financial aid, entrance essays, and how to apply to colleges. By the end of the camp, students will have completed at least one college application to the college of their choice. (Of course, we hope it's UTA!)
Applications are being accepted from high-school students in the Metroplex for the Aspiring STARS Camp, an opportunity to practice hands-on nursing skills, which includes using patient simulators and a visit to the Smart HospitalTM, at The University of Texas at Arlington. (While at the Smart Hospital, students actively participate in a sick baby scenario utilizing the infant simulator.)

A variety of summer classes for children in pre-K through 8th grade entertain, educate and engage students in lessons on wildlife, ecology, environment and science! Nature's Nocturnal Wonders for 5th & 6th graders is an evening class from 6 to 9 pm that includes an overnight sleepover at the Science Center.
The 4-year-old campers are a very important part of the camp! Each week one group of boys and one group of girls begin the amazing Journey of Memories called Camp Thurman!
Very special counselors, who have a desire and talent to work with our youngest campers, lead these little ones each day through an activity schedule we call Sunshine Days. These are days filled with fun things to do [some new, some familiar], talking about Jesus, spending time with a counselor who delights in them, and starting their own tradition of looking forward to an exciting, happy week at Camp Thurman.
Sunshine Days sessions are scheduled each week, with one group of 10 boys and one group of 10 girls each session.
Is there a Rumble in the Jungle? Of course! You can join in the fun and go wild acting out jungle adventures. Music, creative movement, pantomime and acting skills are used to create this exciting safari.
Terrific Tuesdays are an opportunity for children to learn dialogue, solos and dances for this year's summer musical, "Once Upon a Parable." Although Terrific Tuesdays are meant as a time to prepare for Music Week, we will also have fun with some off-site activities as well. Terrific Tuesdays culminate with a lock-in at the church on Friday, July 16th where children polish their parts in the show and celebrate their hard work.
The Engineering and Computer Science Camps are one-week camps designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the variety of engineering disciplines -- aerospace, biomedical, civil & environmental, computer science, electrical, materials science and mechanical -- plus related topics in chemistry and physics. Field trips to see engineering at area businesses and team projects supplement the classroom activities.
The Bridge and Gateway camps are residential camps; Access and Entry camps are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm day camps. All have a Friday evening awards session. The program fees cover a participant's meals, housing (if applicable), insurance, project materials and activities; need-based partial and full camp scholarships are available. Each residential camp is limited to 50 students.
The Engineering and Computer Science Camps are one-week camps designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the variety of engineering disciplines -- aerospace, biomedical, civil & environmental, computer science, electrical, materials science and mechanical -- plus related topics in chemistry and physics. Field trips to see engineering at area businesses and team projects supplement the classroom activities.
The Bridge and Gateway camps are residential camps; Access and Entry camps are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm day camps. All have a Friday evening awards session. The program fees cover a participant's meals, housing (if applicable), insurance, project materials and activities; need-based partial and full camp scholarships are available. Each residential camp is limited to 50 students.

Come and experience the real outdoors! Parents and students enjoy fishing, hiking, and cooking out the first day. Camp out under the stars with late night sounds of owls and coyotes as you prepare for the next day. An early morning canoe tour takes you past beaver lodges and wood duck boxes to finish up a unique adventure at the Nature Center.
These days "tweeting" does not refer to the birds. If you come out to the Nature Center, you will see that tweeting is all about the birds. Come discuss the many tweets of birds, identify some local birds, and learn about what makes them so special. If you have binoculars bring them or use a pair at the center.
Every girl dreams about her soul mate but what happens when he turns out to be a vampire? Bite into this adventure and create your own unique story line for Edward and Bella. You will learn how to develop characters and add special effects and stage combat. Theatre games and improvisation will help you bring your script to life!
Explore River Legacy Parks' pond and creek to uncover all that these fascinating systems have to offer. From insects that walk on water to disappearing ice cubes, students will investigate the many properties of water and its amazing transformations as they discover just how water works. Limit 14 per class.
First through sixth grade students attend a summer session for five consecutive days either in the morning or afternoon. Morning classes meet from 9 am - 12 pm and afternoon classes meet from 1 pm - 4 pm. The Nocturnal Wonders class will meet 6 pm - 9 pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; Thursday students will meet at 6 pm for an overnight class that concludes at 8 am Friday morning. Seventh through eighth grade students will attend a 3-day session from 9 am to 2 pm. All participants should come dressed for both indoor and outdoor explorations.
Join in a hands-on exploration of the astounding aquatic adaptations exhibited by the plants and animals dwelling within the watery environments of River Legacy Parks. Limit 12 per class.

What lives in the water at the Nature Center? From glass shrimp to water scorpions, join this adventure and discover the wide diversity of water dwelling life here at the Nature Center. This is an opportunity to get wet and muddy, so wear old clothes!

Students will learn character development, storytelling, script writing through improvisations, interactive science experiments, theatre games, acting and directing. Come to Platform 9¾ for a wizarding tale of a time!
